This is a very good video. I prefer not to relinquish control of my money by buying an annuity (SPIA). My preferred strategy is to control my money and fate, by buying an index ETF mirroring the S&P 500. I will withdraw my money in a strategy involving a growing annuity model that I control. If you hold on to an S&P ETF for 25 yrs., your CAGR will range from 5.9 to 17.2%. You are way ahead of what an annuity can do for you, without relinquishing control of your fate.

Stan. What are your thoughts on this strategy. Let’s say you put 500k in spia translating to approximately $2,500 in guarantee lifetime income. Husband and wife so rather than putting the spia in joint life status thus reducing the lifetime income, takeout instead a term life policy that would take care of the spouse if the husband passes and put the spia in the husband’s name only maximizing the income!!! Assuming of course that the cost of the policy is less than the decreased amount of guaranteed income had I put the spia in joint life status. My thought is that if I buy the term policy for 500k and 10 yrs later I bite the dust, my wife gets the full 500k whereas if I put the spia in joint life status and die in 10 yrs she will get what remains of the lifetime income which would be less than 500k surely.

Stan you're spot on. The problem with many of us is that we've spent a lifetime saving for retirement, and when retirement comes, we have a hard time spending. Annuities can relieve some of the worries, but to your point, it takes a good team to see it through well. Bottom line, you gotta spend money to preserve money.

Hi Stan: Lifetime income is my goal. I am learning about annuities and seems like a lifetime annuity would make sense if it would perform similar to a bond ladder but you would pick up some of the pooled mortality risk if you stayed alive. If this is the case why doesn't anyone talk about no guaranteed annuities? I assume removing the guarantee could juice the contractual income by a great degree? If you did not want to make that bet would buying some term insurance be a cheaper way to get some guarantee then doing it within the contract? Figure 60 years of age male in good health. Thanks!

I have a question on early retirement roth funded annuities. Watching another channel a host mentioned roth contributions could be used for annuity without penalty before 59.5, but not interest/gains. Is that true for a lifetime annuity? I am hoping to save and buy an annuity or two around age 47, one would be TSP with around half traditional and half roth. The second would be either from my brokerage account or roth IRA, and have the one left as supplimental income along with my hsa for emergencies. If I cannot use the gains on my roth contributions, then that would put a wrench in my plans and I will likely need to use a 72T. The reason I am using Roth is to take advantage of ACA subsidies and basically get free or cheap healthcare 47 to 65, with around half my income Roth. I will have a small pension with cola at 62and ss with cola at 62+. I just turned 36, and have been saving and investing 30-40% of my income for years and am on track for my age 47 retirement goal. Thank you for your time and expertise.

I plan to wait till the end of year when I'll be 66.8 years. If I wait that much longer, my SSI will go up 500.00 month difference plus and I still work 2 part time jobs that consist up to 37 hours. My question to you is my Lincoln Annuity. I still have it with Lincoln and did receive a letter from them that I have to take a certain amount out when I hit 73. Fortunately I don't need it now, but shall I transfer it to my Fidelity Retirement Account. I still work by choice because I still feel like I'm 35. I'm not paycheck to paycheck but If i decide or lose my job...I still have income coming in.

I have two deferred indexed 100K annuities that will reach 10 year maturity next year (I am 71), will provide about 23K together. I have a third 10 Year deferred indexed annuity (133K ) that is only one year old, and will mature when I am 80. All annuities provide lifetime income for my wife and I. My son needed a large sum of money for some legal issues, which came from my high interest savings. Is it worth keeping the 3rd one year old annuity to age 80 or taking the surrender penalty and moving the 118K from that into my pre-tax IRA to invest during the next 9 years? I will lose money, but at least have access to that 118K during that time. Have survived a major stroke and pancreatic cancer, so not sure how making 80 is looking right now - wife is healthy (69). Retired with annual fixed income of 70K. Was contemplating taking the 10% out and this video came at the right time - does not look like a good option now. Thanks for any insight.

@StanTheAnnuityMan I have a question that I havent been able to find a video on, or a clear answer anywhere. I need to provide an income for 10yrs to get me from age 50 to 59.5. I have non-qualified savings acct funds and would like to fund a 10year term SPIA if I would not encounter a 10% pre tax penalty since i am under age 59.5, but this may only apply if I was using qualified funds. I am thinking since I am funding it from after tax money, that i would be ok and would only have to pay tax on the interest/gains, like i would on a CD or MYGA, but i dont know for sure. 🤷‍♂️

It was EXACTLY Dave Ramsey videos like that which steered me away from annuities for many years. But I've seen BIG swings in the market and mutual funds over the years, and the closer I got to retirement, the more nervous I got about having all my money at risk in mutual funds. And while CD rates have been good these last couple years, I also know they're going to go down again.. They already have started to dip down. After watching Stan's videos, and many others, I put some of my money in a fixed index annuity with a rider, that will pay me a decent monthly income with no worries. Once I wrapped my head around the idea that I was "Buying myself a lifetime pension", it was a lot easier. Thanks Stan !!

Enjoy your videos Stan. I took Social Security at 62 because my situation at the time made it a no brainer. (I needed a cash flow coming in even before that....was living off of savings). I am 72 right now, so that is still 4 years away. My bro-in-law did a spreadsheet for me and determined that my break even age would have been 76 (I think he based that on taking it at 65 vs 62).

What kind of dollar amount is needed for a principal to take interest of $500. I understand the rates fluctuate. Just wing it Stan
